Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Lead Backend Engineer (JavaScript) to join a fast-growing startup project. You will be embedded within the clients engineering team and play a key role in building and scaling core backend applications while leading and mentoring a team of engineers.

This position offers the opportunity to influence technical direction, design scalable architectures, and contribute to a high-impact product in a hypergrowth environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a backend engineering team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.

  • Design and implement scalable and maintainable backend architectures to support rapid growth.

  • Define and enforce coding standards, best practices, and architectural guidelines.

  • Contribute to and evolve existing software design patterns.

  • Identify and resolve data and process bottlenecks.

  • Maintain, refactor, and improve the existing codebase.

  • Collaborate closely with Frontend engineers to ensure performance, scalability, and alignment with design requirements.

  • Conduct code reviews and provide constructive technical feedback.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex backend and infrastructure-related issues.

  • Participate in technical planning, roadmap definition, and delivery execution.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of professional backend engineering experience.

  • Proven experience in a lead or senior technical role on high-availability, high-throughput systems.

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with Node.js.

  • 5+ years of experience with MongoDB.

  • 4+ years of experience working with Angular.

  • Strong experience with AWS, including services such as EC2, ECS, S3, Lambda, ElastiCache, AmazonMQ, CloudWatch, and related services.

  • At least 4+ year of professional experience using AWS in production environments.

  • Experience with Docker and container-based architectures.

  • Solid understanding of networking concepts: DNS, VPNs, firewalls, load balancing, static asset delivery, and auto-scaling.

  • Strong understanding of modern web application development best practices and standards.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with proven mentoring experience.

  • Ability to make sound technical decisions and drive projects to completion.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with AI-related technologies.

  • Experience in technical roadmap planning and long-term system design.

  • Exposure to additional frontend or full-stack technologies.

  • Experience working in startup or high-growth environments.
