Senior Backend Developer – Platform Engineering

About the Company

The Company is developing a patent-pending conversational website platform. Instead of clicking through menus, visitors interact directly with the website, which responds by dynamically building the user experience around what they actually want in real time. The same source content renders both as a live conversation and as a traditional storefront from a single unified system.

The core engine is functional, the platform is live, and we are now expanding into enterprise distribution—where the data driving every answer lives within complex systems of record that were never originally built for conversational interaction.

Role Overview

The conversational layer gets the attention—this job is the reason it can be trusted.

When a visitor asks about pricing, inventory, shipping costs, or buying on account terms, the answer must resolve live from the customer’s real systems—correctly, securely, and within tight page render budgets. When an order is placed, it must land in the customer’s ERP exactly once, fully reconciled and ready for processing.

In this role, you will build and own the core platform engineering layer: data ingest pipelines, the enterprise connector framework, real-time read/write paths into systems of record, and multi-tenant usage metering. Working in a small, fast-paced team alongside platform leadership, the systems you build will go into production rapidly.

What You'll Build First

  • Catalog Ingest at Scale: Scheduled ingest of large product feeds into the product information layer, including schema mapping, incremental upserts, reconciliation rules, and human-edit vs. source-overwrite logic.
  • Real-Time ERP Read Path: Live resolution of customer-specific pricing, inventory on hand, freight determination, and credit terms at cart/PDP within strict render budgets and rate-limited ERP environments (incorporating caching, batching, coalescing, and graceful degradation).
  • Order Write Path: Idempotent, reconcilable, and observable order submission into customer ERP systems.
  • Commerce & Financial Integrations: Secure integration of tax calculation, card tokenization/pre-authorization, alternative tender, and account terms ordering (ensuring zero sensitive card data lands on our platform).
  • Tenant Usage Metering: Accurate, invoice-grade metering infrastructure for model inference, storage, bandwidth, and catalog records per tenant.

Ongoing Responsibilities

  • Connector Framework: Scale and evolve the connector architecture to dramatically reduce onboarding time for second- and third-party ERP integrations.
  • Tenant Isolation: Enforce strict multi-tenant isolation standards as the platform's surface area expands.
  • Grounding & Retrieval: Build retrieval plumbing to keep the conversational AI layer anchored in authoritative enterprise data, along with evaluation harnesses to verify accuracy.
  • Search & System Operations: Own publishing workflows, cache revalidation, search infrastructure, and customer cutovers.
  • MCP & APIs: Ship and maintain Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, extension APIs, webhooks, and outbox patterns.
  • Platform Observability: Enhance system observability to pinpoint performance bottlenecks across tenants within minutes.

Required Qualifications (Must-Haves)

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience building and operating production backend systems in multi-tenant SaaS environments. (Node Or Python)
  • Database & Data Modeling: Expert-level relational data modeling and SQL proficiency, including live migrations on multi-tenant databases.
  • Asynchronous Systems: Deep practical experience with queues, scheduled jobs, idempotency, retries, rate-limiting, and backpressure management.
  • API & System Integration: Proven track record integrating third-party enterprise APIs and handling their failure modes gracefully.
  • Cloud Infrastructure: Strong hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred).
  • Codebase Discipline: Ability to work cleanly inside an existing codebase and respect established architecture conventions.
  • Communication: Clear verbal and written English communication skills for remote collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Haves)

  • Hands-on production experience with LLM infrastructure: retrieval, grounding, evaluation harnesses, streaming, and token accounting.
  • Experience developing MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers.
  • Experience with ERP integrations, particularly Epicor and Prophet 21.
  • Experience with payment systems, tax engines (Avalara), card tokenization, or terms-based B2B checkout.
  • Expertise in search/retrieval at scale (hybrid search, pgvector, OpenSearch).
  • Background in e-commerce, PIM platforms, or complex supply chain systems.
